Warning Accessories for Non-Professional Use - Testing Methods and Requirements

This standard specifies the optical requirements for accessories intended to be worn, attached, or carried by individuals and designed for non-professional use. Warning accessories complying with this standard are intended to signal the visual presence of users when illuminated by a vehicle's headlights on dark roads. This standard is not suitable for clothing.

This standard applies to products specifically designed for wearing or carrying by individuals to enhance their visibility to other road users in low-light conditions. The products feature retro-reflective properties. The products are considered means to improve visibility in very low ambient lighting conditions. Products used to enhance visibility on well-lit urban streets must comply with EN 471:1994 or EN 1150. In some cases, where a vehicle breakdown occurs, drivers can use high-visibility clothing to inform other road users, thus preventing serious injury or death. Products conforming to this European standard are beneficial, as their movement and retro-reflective properties attract the attention of observers.
